Typically, dependency court involves several hearings and the establishment of a case plans to determine whether a child can be unified with their parent. Less frequently, a parent or other caregiver such as a grandparent, may file a private action to request that one or both parent's rights be terminated due to abandonment, abuse, or neglect of the child.
