
James “Jay” Butler
James “Jay” Butler is an attorney with Greene & Greene primarily practicing family law and trust and estate litigation.
Jay earned a Bachelor of Science in international politics and security studies at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service, after which he attended Vanderbilt Law School to earn his Juris Doctorate. While pursuing his education in DC and Nashville, Jay worked in the United States Congress, the Department of Defense’s National Defense University, the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office, and various pro bono organizations.
Following law school, Jay began his legal career working for a boutique trial litigation firm in Texas, where his primary practice involved litigating complex contract and related business suits. After several years in both Houston and Dallas, Jay moved to St. Petersburg in 2020 where he has helped Greene & Greene’s clients litigate and resolve their respective family law, trust, and estate disputes ever since. Jay is an active member of several local organizations including the Canakaris Inn of Court and the St. Pete Bar Association.
